2014colemanosu.jpgTucson, AZ – While many Wildcats had become very familiar with blowouts-last year’s team was one of the highest scoring offenses in NCAA history-Chad Smith had never led one himself. Until now. The senior QB who just wins got another one, and only had to play a half of football.

Oregon State’s opening drive featured an interception by Howad Coleman (pictured) that he promptly returned for a touchdown. The Beavers were down 7-0 and only seven second had gone off the clock, and honestly it didn’t get much better. Patrick Rodriguez also decided to keep playing like a maniac with five tackles and a vicious sack on the Oregon State QB.

“He kind of looked like the TA at Arizona,” said Rodriguez after the game. “When I picture that douche, I just go nuts. Butthis year, when we play ASU we might as well play a team full of TAs because I’m pissed.”

Offensively, Chad was nearly perfect, going 6/7 for 156 yard and a touchdown, he also grabbed 66 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns including one running the option.

“I love running the option,” said Smith after the game. “I came in here as an athlete, and I’ll go out as an athlete, it would be great if I could play something like Randle-El in the NFL, if not, I’ll just go to Canada. The AD here said he could get me a tryout with the Alouettes. Also, big ups to my line and Lamont for those blocks today.”

Nick Spencer failed to over 100 yards in the game, but to his credit he did not play the second half. and Brian Haynes looked solid again with 43 yards on ten carries including some clutch runs up the middle.chad2014oregonstate.jpg

And Jason Weaver did it again: 3 catches, 104 yards and two touchdowns. Virtually every game you can guarantee he’ll catch a touchdown, and go over 100 yards. Which is amazing considering how few passes are thrown.

“Jason is so important” said Stoops after the game. “The strategy this year has changed a bit, now that we have a running game, they can’t double team Jason as much, so when they come up to the line, we go long. If he’s doubled, that’s one less guy trying to tackle Nick or Chad. It’s pretty simple, but it works.”

When asked about Casey Cook’s new girlfriend, Stoops had this to say: “Casey is Casey, and to be honest, I’m kind of shocked. She doesn’t seem like his type.”

The Wildcats also had two recruits at the game and recieved the first commit of 2014.
